Sports Update – 27 May 2022

Kia ora,

Sports at Torbay are back and have been off to a fantastic start! This term we have 12 netball teams, 3 hockey teams, 4 splash polo teams, 11 rippa rugby teams and 10 basketball teams! It is great to see so many of our Torbay students and parents/caregivers being involved in sport.

Netball: Our netball teams have been off to an amazing start. It has been great to see so many of our students playing on these cold Saturday mornings at Pinehurst. Our Netball North Harbour teams will be competing in a Year 6 Field Day on June 22nd, more information to come soon.

Splash Polo: Well done to all of our Torbay students playing flippaball this term. It is great to see so many of you in action, in the pool.

Rippa Rugby: Our first Rippa Rugby tournament is coming up quickly! It will be held on June 16th at Windsor Park. All trainings will take place during school hours. Year 6 parents, we are still after some more parent helpers. If your child is registered and you are able to help, please contact Sam Coyle – [email protected]

Basketball: Despite the interruptions to basketball as East Coast Bays Leisure Centre undergo renovations, basketball is still happening at Torbay. Every Friday afternoon our Year 5 & 6 students are playing in our very first Torbay School Basketball League. Our teams are going head to head for the ultimate prize of bragging rights. Our Year 1 to 4 students are keeping up their basketball skills with weekly trainings. If you don’t want your child to miss out there is still room available!

Hockey: Ka pai to all of our hockey teams! Keep up the good work.

Once again, a big thank you to all of our coaches. You give so much time and effort to our students and their skills are improving at a huge pace.
