Dear Parents/Caregivers,
Board of Trustees Midterm Elections are coming up. Torbay School operates on staggered election terms. This means that two seats are up for election in December.

A nomination form and notice calling for nominations have been emailed or posted to eligible voters.

Being a Board Trustee involves governing the school with the main focus of improving student achievement. The Board is responsible for the School Charter which includes the direction the school is heading and the strategic goals to achieve it. Decisions we make are around student achievement, property, health and safety, finances and employment to list a few.

The Board is made up of 5 parent/caregiver trustees, a staff trustee and the principal. It is an important responsibility and is necessary as the Board represents our community and our individual school needs.

Torbay School is looking for two Board Trustees in this coming election. No previous experience of being on a board is necessary. There is lots of support when you become a Trustee, through the school board and through outside agencies such as NZSTA. While it is a commitment being a Board Trustee, there are many positive benefits too. Here are a few reflections on being on our Board from some past and present members: “There have been many opportunities to learn new things, and participate in a high performing environment” “You feel like you are part of a passionate and well-meaning team that really cares about kids”

“It gives you great insight into the amount of time, energy and thought that goes into developing learning programmes specific to our learners”

“Opportunity to meet fellow parents and further integrate myself into this amazing community”

“Great to give back to the hardworking teachers at the school and the wider community”

“The team is totally passionate about achievement, culture, innovation, community and well-being of the students”
