I am one of the Deputy Principals at Torbay School and have the honour of writing the first bit of the newsletter this week. I have been at Torbay School for 16 years and absolutely love my job. The staff are terrific, the students delightful and the community are enthusiastic and caring.

My main role here is ‘curriculum and resources ’. I support staff with the development of the curriculum. I look at how we can improve our environment, furniture, classroom resources, property including the development of the new building.

We would like to extend our condolences and send special thoughts to one of our valued staff members Rachel Mayne who recently lost her husband Pete to cancer after a very short battle. Rachel and Pete have been involved at Torbay school for many years both as parents, being on the PTA and attending school events such as camps and special occasions. To Rachel, Sophie and Holly and their extended families our thoughts are with you at this sad time. Pete was a wonderful family man and friend to many. He will be sorely missed.

Congratulations Alyce and James on the safe arrival of your beautiful baby boy Jay Debenham. We can’t wait to meet him!

The inside of the new building is on track to be completed soon, however the outside needs a bit more work. Currently the painting of the exterior is going up, drainage around the building and surroundings worked on. To make sure we move into a completed inside and outside, we have made the decision to delay the move in date to 25th June

We will postpone one of the Teacher Only Days from Thursday 3rd June to 25th June. We understand that some families may have already made arrangements for that weekend. Please notify the office if this affects your plans.

Today our staff at Torbay School are engaged in professional learning looking at UDL Universal Design for Learning, catering for the diverse and variable needs of all students in our school.

It has been a very busy and productive term so far and we look forward to having a break over Easter to recharge our batteries.

MEETINGS – The next B.O.T Meeting will be held on Wednesday 19th May @ 7pm in the Staffroom. The next New Parent Meeting will be held on Monday 14th June **Please note date change** @ 9.30am in the staffroom .

TORBAY SCHOOL SPORTS HOODIE ORDER – A reminder that orders will be closing on Wednesday 7th April @ 3pm. This is the first order for 2021. There will only be one other opportunity to purchase a sports hoodie later in Term 3. These hoodies can be worn at any Torbay School sports event (Rippa, Netball Tournaments etc) but not as a replacement for our school uniform.  To purchase one please visit our online shop under the sports tab.
Y6 CAMP, CAREY PARK WEDNESDAY 7th – FRIDAY 9th APRIL – Our Y6 Students are off to camp next week for 3 days!  We hope you have an amazing time away and we look forward to hearing all about it when you return!
END OF TERM MUFTI DAY & PTA SAUSAGE SIZZLE – Friday 16th April.  We will be holding an end of term fun morning tea which will have games and activities including food and drinks too.  More information to come home soon!
Y4 CAMP 2021 – Peter Snell Youth Village – 13th & 14th May 2021 – The Year 4 camp online consent forms have been emailed to you, if you have already filled these out and submitted them thank you, if you haven’t please do so ASAP. Click here to complete. Thank you to those that have also volunteered to help art Camp, some forms have been sent home with your child yesterday, please ensure you fill these put and return them after the Easter break on Wednesday 7th April.  There will be a Y4 Camp information evening on Tuesday 13th April at 5.30pm in the Staffroom.  If you are staying overnight you are expected to be at this meeting.
SCHOOL POOL KEYS – FINAL REMINDER all pool keys need to be returned to the school office by the end of this term Friday 16th April at 3pm. Keys must be returned by that date to receive the $20.00 bond refund.
SCHOOL ABSENCES –  Please remember to contact the school office if your child is going to be absent from school.

HEALTH ROOM REMINDERS
Please do not send any children to school who are unwell. 

If your child is sick please stay home and follow the guidelines for the illness and stay home for the recommended time frame set by the Ministry of Health.

GENERAL REMINDERS 

WHEELS DAY – Wheels day is on every Friday for all Y1-5 learners. Wheels day includes all wheels ie Scooters, skateboards, roller skates/blades, NO BIKES PLEASE. Please note: Wheels day is ONLY on Waterwise days which is weather dependent.

SECOND HAND UNIFORM SHOP – The shop will be open to purchase second hand uniforms on Thursday 15th April from 8:30am-8:55am and 3pm—3.30pm just inside the hall by the office. If you have any good condition uniforms you wish to donate, please bring them to the school office.
