It has been a busy term and as we reach the end of term 3, we look back on what our tamariki have been up to in their respective sports. As always, a big thank you to all of our coaches and managers. Sport here at Torbay would not be possible without you. All your time and effort is always greatly appreciated.
Junior Cross Country: On Friday the 5th of September (Week 8) we hosted our annual junior cross country race. After all of the children’s hard work training at school to get ready for the big day, it was great to see the sun shining and our tamariki competing against each other. Thank you to our year six sport monitors and interschool runners for marshalling our course and guiding/encouraging our runners on. Also, thank you to all the parents who managed to come along and cheer on our students, it was a great turn out!

Our splash polo teams compete on a Sunday afternoon at the National Aquatic Centre. Keep up the great work in the pool!
Rippa Rugby: The second Rippa Rugby Festival took place at the start of term 3. We had 91 students participate in Rippa and 19 students in Tackle Rugby. Windsor Park was full of primary school students from 10+ schools ripping tags, making tackles, getting muddy, and having fun. Photos from the day can be found below.
Winter Sports Day: In week 6, many of our year 6 students represented Torbay at the Winter Sports Day hosted by Kristin. Our tamariki participated in football, basketball, hockey, or netball. Well done to all of our teams and giving it your all!

Kidzplay netball: This winter season we had 10 teams competing at Kidzplay netball on a Saturday morning. Congratulations to all of our teams for their hard work and completing a wonderful season. Kidzplay netball will return next term for spring league.

Netball World Cup: This past term our year 5 & 6 students competed in an in house netball tournament during their lunch time. We had over 50 students battle it out in a round robin format with our top 2 teams competing in the final with many in attendance. Congratulations to Wales for winning 7-6 on golden point against Australia. This tournament teaches the children a great deal about winning and losing and we were all so impressed with the sportsmanship and team spirit on display.

Hockey: This winter season we had three hockey teams between the year groups of 3 to 6 compete at North Harbour Hockey on a Monday evening. Congratulations to all teams on your season!

Torbay Sports Hoodies: Like our new sports uniforms, this year we have shifted to NZ Uniforms. We can confirm that our Torbay Sports Hoodies are now available for purchase. Please note that this is an optional piece of uniform and can only be used for Torbay School sporting and interschool events and are not able to be worn at school to replace our Torbay School blue jumper.
Sport Photos: Photolife returned to Torbay School on the 26th of August to do our team photos. All students that participated in netball, basketball, splashpolo, and/or hockey this term had their photos taken. Photo Life will send you a code to gain access to your child’s photos. If you do not receive a code, please contact the office and admin@torbay.school.nz and they will be able to assist you.
Player of the Day: We would love to celebrate these players each week. If you coach or manage a team please don’t forget to send in your weekly nominations for player of the day so that they can be mentioned in our school sports newsletters.
