Sam Hayden

Teaching level: Year 4 Room 20

Hello there!!

My name is Sam Hayden and this is my seventh year of teaching at Torbay Primary School. As a part the Motuihe team. I am currently teaching a class of year four legends in room 20. My studies have taken me through a Diploma in Outdoor Recreation Leadership, a Degree in Sport and Recreation and a Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching.

I spent the previous 7 years working as a stunt performer, an outdoor education instructor focusing mainly in the areas of rock climbing, abseiling, kayaking and team building and as a community support worker in homes with youth at risk. My mission has always been to see young and old alike develop the confidence and skills to face and overcome fear and integrate this learning into their lifestyle.

I have been married to my gorgeous wife Michelle for 6 years and have a wild son Rico who is 3 years old. The things in life that fill me up are: family, friends, faith, reading the bible, encouraging and adding value to people, the outdoors, adventure sports, any type of chocolate and fresh learning experiences. As a Christian I love being a part of Harbourside Church in Takapuna.

One of my main passions as a teacher is illuminating the strengths and gifting of each student, that they may become truly aware of them. I believe self esteem is the major key to developing and maintaining healthy and mature social skills and coping strategies to take on life. I am looking forward to the rewards and challenges this year at Torbay and I am truly excited about the journey ahead.
