Johanna Chambers

Teaching level: Year 4/5 Room 6

I have been teaching since 1992 and I have taught at Murrays Bay Primary, Manurewa West, Kaitaia Primary and Pinehill prior to starting at Torbay in 2014.

I grew up in Kaitaia and loved the carefree lifestyle of being able to bike to my friends places, the short drive to amazing beaches, camping, digging pipis, catching fish, being part of the Yugoslav Kolo Group and playing netball.

I still have a love for all of the above! My parents now live in Uretiti, so it's not far to escape the pressures living in Auckland brings! I always take my bike up for a nice flat ride. Other than that I'm always found on the couch with a book reading if I'm not outside helping on the land.

My main hobby is cycling. I cycle every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. This is purely for exercise and a great way to catch up with my awesome friends. In 2013 and 2014 I was part of the epic 200km Ride to Conquer Cancer. I raised the top amount of $23000 in 2013. I was the captain of the winning team, Team Awesome in 2014, raising $65000. This money was raised to go directly to the Auckland Cancer Society Research Centre.

For me the best part of teaching is seeing shining eyes. That moment when you know a child gets a concept, knows they have been successful or are just enjoying what they are doing. My passion in teaching is e-Learning, an essential skill area for 21st century learning.

I'm in Room 6, which is the new Modern Learning Environment (MLE) classroom. Please feel free to pop in, say hello and look at the awesome learning that is going on.
