My name is Rachel McKenlay. I am married to Todd and we have 3 children. Born in NZ, I graduated from Otago University with a BCom, then went travelling to the UK. Due to career opportunities I stayed there for 14 years.

Workwise my experience is in sales and management.  While in the UK I was a director of an international recruitment company with 250 employees.  My responsibilities included the leadership, management and performance of the UK and European offices. In 2006 we returned to NZ with the belief that the North Shore would be a great place to raise our family.

I joined the Board of Trustees in 2011 after my eldest child had been at the school for a year. On the Board I have been involved in property and personnel matters, strategic planning, decisions on policy, the last ERO review and I am currently the Board Chair. We have a very supportive school community and I believe that communication between the Board and the school community is vital.

Torbay School is a great school with fantastic teachers and leadership. I am proud of what our school has been achieving and the fact that other schools are looking to replicate the modern learning practices that are currently happening in our school. The last ERO review team giving Torbay School 4-5 years until its next review is also testament to what an excellent school we have and the high standard of education our children are receiving. Our priority should always be our students, our children – giving them the best education and experiences possible.
